There is no beautiful light without a beautiful shadow!
These T-light holders give a second life to industrial ceramic cutters after their intended use, now cutting beautiful shadows instead. Handmade and spray painted to copper yellow finish, these 'cutting lights' give a feeling of antique collectible even in daylight. A very thoughtfully designed simple copper wire stand floats the whole T-light holder just enough above the ground to render these precise flowery shadows. |
'The other side of leather' was the inspiration behind this jewellery design. Utilizing the scrap leather pieces from Hidesign, Bhavin Mali designed this set of jewellery with the rear side of leather playing an aesthetic role in a very unique way. While playing with the dual tone leather in different forms, he also came up with an interesting braiding technique which was then used for both bracelet and necklace. The design won 'Femina Hidesign Art of Reuse' contest and was featured in Femina.

Miniature painting artists from Rajasthan used their seasoned skills to turn these basic geometric wooden pieces into this intricately beautiful jewellery.
As part of craft modernization initiative, the project was about developing new applications for skills of craftsmen, beyond their traditional product portfolio, designing and making products which will be relevant to modern population without loosing essence of the craft itself. Different combinations of four basic shapes with variety of painting patterns provides a high level of modularity and choice to the jewellery buyer, apart from the opportunity to own the much more precious piece of traditional craft at comparatively lower price. |
Concrete Data is an experiment in material application.
Bhavin Mali enjoys pushing boundaries of materials and processes, especially when it seems to be challenging enough. This pendrive is an outcome of one such challenge, which was, using water curing material (cement) with electronic circuit which can be easily damaged if short-circuited by water! The pendrive, which took lot of time and patience before curing and getting its final shape, works perfectly fine wthout any issues. Not just the textured look of this slick pendrive, but even the feel in hand is something that can only be experienced in person. |
Super-Macro Addon Lens
Paper tube is one of the favourite materials of Bhavin Mali, and this addon lens he made for his sub 10K digicam is first of some other products. Canon SX130 IS has a good 12X optical zoom and coupled with this simple supermacro lens attachment, it gives very impressively magnified images as can be seen in some examples here. |
